The Manchester Ear

Sound is often overlooked and under-appreciated in our overwhelmingly visual, screen-based society

Founded by Hayley Suviste and Ryan Woods in 2018, The Manchester Ear aims to get communities involved with listening to the environment through sound walking, deep listening, and field recording workshops in and around Manchester.

We hope to foster greater involvement, understanding, and appreciation for these places, exploring ideas of acoustic ecology, deep listening, and highlighting the well-being benefits for those taking part in sound walks.

From £8 - Tickets

Join us for a unique singing workshop led by Néfur (Laura Guarch), a renowned Catalan vocalist, composer, and field recordist, at the tranquil Hulme Community Garden Centre.

This workshop invites you to explore embodied listening and engage in guided group vocal improvisations with captivating field recordings. Immerse yourself in the powerful sounds of roaring Icelandic glaciers, intense storms in volcanic Catalan forests, gentle streams flowing in the Lake District, and enchanting birdcalls from Menorca's wetlands. Through this sonic collaboration with the more-than-human world, the human voice becomes one among many voices in the natural world's biophony. Participants will embark on a journey of embodied listening and intuitive vocal communication, expressing a collective sense of kinship with the natural soundscape.

This Manchester edition of the ‘Sen-sing’ workshop is presented by The Manchester Ear and BOTHY.
